With the routes and plans established, it was left to the Mothers to retrieve Guthranka from beneath the ice. While the rest of the party went to the ranger caves near the fire giant fortress to rest, Gaspode, Levi, Fonesca and Jito went to the arrival point to wait for dusk. Levi took the chain out of the box and laid it on the ground in a figure of eight while Gaspode searched for the parchment. At the appropriate time (and when Fonesca had arranged them in the twin circles to her liking), Gaspode held the parchment aloft and they were taken to the glacier. A long hike in darkness later and they stood across the crevasse from the ledge and tunnel entrance. Jito flew over on his broom, dragging a rope with him and soon the paladin and her companions had set off with them towards the rift.
Traversing the ice caverns again was slightly disturbing if uneventful; they made their way to the lever that was their destination with only the groans and cracks of the wind and ice to distract them. The more westerly mountains soon loomed above them and they hurried to the ranger cave to reunite with their friends. All was well there, so after a few hours of rest the whole party set out to the west and south in search of Citadel Adbar. Kurtalla and Gebhart used their skills to guide the group through the valleys and passes; avoiding contact where possible with any local denizens. It took three days to march to the Citadel and most of the group did not recognise it when they arrived.
The rock of the upper citadel blended deceivingly with that of the mountain it was an extension of, but once they knew it was there, the Mothers could perceive the mighty battlements and embrasures. They were greeted rather gruffly by a dwarven guard at the narrow entrance, who asked them many questions about their origins and purposes. He gave them leave to remain for a short time and directed them to Conathç´ Inn, one that was owned by a human on the second level of the lower citadel. Jito used his knowledge of Dethek script and dwarvish to guide them down to the inn where they lodged for the night.
